Hey Peaches,

It’s self care Sunday! Have you gotten your nails done today?

Before I go all in, my nail polish is from   Yaraz.Ke; 786 Cosmetics; in the shade Petra. I got my nails done from AweSam Nails in Westlands by Sam.

Let’s face it, most beauty products we use have toxins. What’s worse is animals are used in cruel tests for these products. This includes nail polish brands like L’oreal, Maybelline, and O.P.I. etc. Overtime, my nail cuticles became extremely weak especially because of gel and acrylics application. So I had to go nail-polish-free for a while to naturally strengthen my cuticles. Some of these harmful chemicals have triggered my sinuses and can also cause allergic reactions, inflammation, nausea, respiratory distress and even seizures. Also, compromising when it comes to prayers – totally not worth it.

This prompted me to research on non-toxic, eco-friendly, cruelty-free nail polish brands swaps.

That’s how I discovered Yaraz Kenyan Brand – U.S786 Cosmetics breathable / permeable nail polish which makes it Halal and features an 11-free formula that is plant based, free from 11 harsh chemicals found in standard nail polish; Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde resin, Toluene, Camphor, Ethyl Tosylamide, DBP, Xylene, TPHP, Methylisothiazolinone, MEHQ/HQ and parabens.

Also, a top coat in glossy and matte finish is included in the collection.

Each polish costs Kshs1,500/-, while 3-piece gift sets costs Kshs. 4,500/- and 6 piece gift sets costs Kshs. 9,000/-. The gift sets can be customized to client’s  needs.

When I received my Nailpolish package from, I was impressed by the plastic-free Eco packaging, embroidered with pretty colorful prints. My nail-polish package arrived in 2 shades; Metallic Silver and Petra. And 1 extra top coat matte nail polish. Petra was my instant choice for application because I love peachy neutral colors which I also find suitable for work.

Through Miss Turu’s Instagram, I found AweSam Nail Parlor which follows social distance and precautionary measures for Covid19, with mirror separators and also nail technicians wore face masks and hand gloves when serving their clients. That’s what attracted me to visit; beauty and safety should go hand in hand ladies (pun intended).

Let’s throw it back to last Sunday, when I visited AweSam Nails for a manicure by Sam who did an exemplary job. He was also resourceful with pictures and videos using their tripod stand and ring light. After a brief hands and nails cleaning, Sam applied on my nails two coats of Petra as instructed, but since it was still light he had to apply a third coat to achieve a perfect color.

Once dried by their cute little fan, we applied the matte top coat nail polish which settled perfectly and a little nail art to add a fancy flavor. The results were awesome!

The nail polish is said to last a minimum of 7 days, however, it took 5 days with minimal chipping – it chips like normal nailpolish. It’s light and toxic free, but smells like a normal nail polish.

As I’m typing this however, two of my nails still have full nail polish which I guess makes it 7 days. I wouldn’t expect them to last this long anyways because of filing documents all through the week . It really depends on how well you maintain your nails.

It sucks that I will have to use a normal nail polish remover though, but good news: Yaraz is stocking soy-based nail polish remover from the 786 Cosmetics nail polish brand soon.

A Little More Information About The Brand

786 Cosmetics Breathable Halal Nailpolish

786 Cosmetics is a halal nail polish brand that collaborates with Yaraz as a distributor of Halal nail polish in East Africa started on 1st of July 2019. Yaraz goes by the official name Amina Fahami. She is an Electrical Engineer by profession majorly focused on Industrial Automation on sustainable and efficient energy solutions. Her Entrepreneurship skills and passion for cosmetics and fashion landed her  on venturing into niche markets like 786 Cosmetics.

”My inspiration on the search for halal nail polish started back in 2018, during my Nikkah when I wanted to do my nails for the big day, not being able to pray with the ordinary nail polish made me feel very uncomfortable, hence Yaraz journey started. I started researching for a breathable nail polish product which is halal certified, cruelty-free and vegan, thus collaborating with 786 cosmetics which had all the requirements I’ve been searching for. The fact that it is tested and verified halal and water permeable by Kalamazoo Islamic Center (KIC) including other certifications, such as cruelty – free and vegan certification by PETA got me sold!

Apart from nail polish collection, 786 cosmetics also has a range of nail care products, from Nail Rescue Primer that works to strengthen weak and damaged nails, to nourishing treatment that has essential vitamins for nails, cuticle almond oil that moisturizes cuticles and improve the look on nails and a soy-based nail polish remover that gently removes nail polish without drying out your nails. It’s important to note nail care products are not permeable.” Yaraz ~ Amina Fahami.

Apart from 786 Cosmetics, Yaraz also ventures in different portfolios such as modest long skirts that is part of Yaraz wear collection.
